Molten Metal Pyrometer with RS485 Interface – LMI-2010

Molten metal Temperature Indicator (LMI-2010-V2): Libratherm offers an improved version of LMI-2010, in which the user can select two types of measurement from a single instrument: Spot and Continuous Temperature Measurement of Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Molten Metals.

1) Spot measurement (SM) uses disposable thermocouple tips, where the disposable thermocouple tip is dipped into the molten metal for 3 to 5 seconds and then withdrawn. In this short measurement time, the operator is guided through the measurement cycle by audio/visual alarms for thermocouple continuity, measurement in progress and measurement over. Once the measurement is over, the final reading is latched onto the display. Any error in measurement due to the thermocouple open condition is immediately detected and informed by activating the audio/visual alarm. This is a very common practice in the industry. The last measured value will remain latched on the display till the next measurement is performed.

LMI-2010 is designed to measure and display the molten metal temperature in very short intervals. The indicator is rugged, reliable, field-proven and very easy to operate. Users can select the desired thermocouple type and set other parameters using the front panel keyboard. The thermocouple input circuit is optically isolated from the main circuit to avoid the ground line and RFI/EMI interference during the measurement.

During measurement, the indicator ignores the slag temperature, and the Average or Plateau reading is determined using the advanced algorithm. The same is latched and displayed on the bright 7-segment 2” red LED. The latched readings are transmitted on two wire RS-485 buses for remote display and computer interface. The last 100 readings are stored in the built-in memory and can be recalled. Analogue retransmission of the Latched reading in isolated 4-20mA is also provided for remote measurement using the external device.

Added Features: LMI-2010 has the facility to work with single DIP Thermocouple and Multi DIP thermocouple TIPS. The system comes to READY mode every time the new TIP is connected to the Lance or when the same TIP is reused for multiple measurements.

2) Continuous measurement (CM) uses a permanent thermocouple installed inside the molten metal. The type of thermocouple and temperature measurement range entirely depends on the type of metal, such as Brass, Copper, Aluminum, Iron, etc. CM allows users to monitor the temperature online on local digital and large remote displays. In this method, event indications are not generated.

Large or Remote Display (LRU-2010): Libratherm also offers a 32-bit microcontroller-based remote display compatible with LMI-2010. This remote display model LRU-2010 captures the reading from LMI-2010 on an RS-485 2-wire bus, indicating the latched reading on a 4” or 8” large red 7-segment LED display. With a single LMI-2010-V2, 5 x LRU-2010 can be connected in a serial multi-drop configuration. This display works on 230VAC and can be mounted at a suitable height for distant viewing.
